Therapy for Trauma
What is Trauma?
Trauma is more than a difficult event. It is the lasting impact that overwhelming, distressing, or life-altering experiences can have on the mind, body, and nervous system.
Trauma can occur when an experience exceeds your ability to cope, leaving you feeling powerless, unsafe, or emotionally overwhelmed. While some traumatic experiences involve a single event, trauma can also develop through ongoing stress, loss, neglect, relational wounds, or repeated experiences that leave a lasting imprint. Trauma can affect the way you think, feel, relate to others, and experience safety in the world around you.
Trauma Symptoms
Feeling constantly on edge or easily startled.
Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe.
Emotional overwhelm or emotional numbness.
Intrusive memories or distressing thoughts.
Anxiety, fear, or persistent worry.
Difficulty regulating emotions.
Trouble sleeping or frequent nightmares.
Feeling disconnected from yourself or others.
At its core, trauma is often the experience of a nervous system adapting to survive overwhelming circumstances. Long after an experience has ended, the mind and body may continue to carry its impact, influencing how you respond to stress, relationships, and everyday life.
In many ways, trauma is like carrying the echoes of past experiences into the present. Even when a difficult event has ended, your mind and body may continue to hold onto the emotions, beliefs, and survival responses that helped you get through it. Everyday situations, relationships, or emotions can trigger reactions that feel confusing or overwhelming, making it difficult to feel fully safe, connected, or at ease. At its core, trauma is often the mind and body's attempt to adapt to overwhelming experiences—holding onto protective patterns long after they are no longer needed.
Trauma Treatment Approaches
My approach to treating trauma is holistic, collaborative, and tailored to each individual's needs. I integrate Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Mindfulness to help clients better understand and navigate the emotional, cognitive, and nervous system impacts of trauma. Together, we explore the thoughts, emotions, body sensations, beliefs, and underlying experiences that continue to shape present-day patterns while building greater nervous system regulation, self-awareness, and resilience. The goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help you process and heal from past experiences, reconnect with yourself, and cultivate a deeper sense of safety, empowerment, and trust in your daily life.
