Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

What is PTSD?

PTSD is more than remembering a difficult or traumatic event. It is a response that can occur when the mind and body continue to react as though a past threat is still present, even after the danger has passed.

It can feel like your nervous system is constantly on guard, scanning for danger and struggling to feel safe. Certain situations, places, emotions, or memories may trigger intense reactions, making it difficult to fully relax, trust, or remain present. PTSD can affect the way you think, feel, relate to others, and experience the world around you.

PTSD Symptoms

  • Intrusive memories or flashbacks.

  • Feeling constantly on edge or hypervigilant.

  • Difficulty relaxing or feeling safe.

  • Avoidance of reminders associated with the trauma.

  • Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected.

  • Irritability, anger, or heightened emotional reactions.

  • Difficulty sleeping or frequent nightmares.

  • Trouble concentrating or staying present.

At its core, PTSD is often the experience of a nervous system that has adapted to survive overwhelming experiences and continues to respond as though the threat is still occurring, even when you are no longer in danger.

In many ways, PTSD is like living with a smoke alarm that never fully turns off. Even when you are safe, your mind and body may continue to react as though danger is still present. Ordinary situations, memories, emotions, or sensations can trigger intense feelings of fear, distress, or vigilance, making it difficult to relax and trust the present moment. At its core, PTSD is often the mind and body's attempt to protect you after overwhelming experiences—remaining on high alert long after the threat has passed.

Therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Treatment Approaches

My approach to treating PTSD is holistic, collaborative, and tailored to each individual's needs. I integrate Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), EMDR, Polyvagal Theory, and Prolonged Exposure (PE) to help clients process traumatic experiences and better understand the ways trauma may continue to impact their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and nervous system. Together, we explore the beliefs, memories, emotional responses, and survival patterns that developed in response to trauma while building greater nervous system regulation, self-awareness, and resilience. The goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help you cultivate a deeper sense of safety, connection, and trust in yourself, others, and the world around you.
